Winter Waterpark Tips for Tourists

Florida is well known for its warm weather year-round, making the sunshine state the perfect place to enjoy waterparks, even during winter. Many outdoor waterparks close when the temperature drops, but here in Orlando, places like Universal’s Volcano Bay, SeaWorld’s Aquatica and Discovery Cove, and Disney’s Typhoon Lagoon and Blizzard Beach remain open throughout the year.

If you are planning to visit a Florida waterpark this winter, use the following tips to help prepare for your trip.

Check the calendar – before buying tickets, make sure to check the waterpark’s calendar for helpful information such as operating times and scheduled maintenance.

During the winter, many parks may reduce hours and days open as well as temporarily shut down certain attractions or even the park as it is common to do so during the slower season to complete necessary repairs and routine maintenance.

Bring appropriate attire – though you may be warm while swimming and playing in the heated water, be sure to have the right kind of clothing for when you get out. The wind speed and outside temperature can vary. It is important to bring items like long pants and jackets to change into before leaving the waterpark.

Don’t forget the sunscreen – even on a cloudy, cooler day, it is important to protect your skin with sunscreen. Be sure to apply waterproof sunblock 30 minutes before arriving at the park and remember to reapply as needed.

Stay hydrated – playing in the water all day can cause your body to become dehydrated. Drink plenty of water and avoid sugary drinks that can contribute to dehydration whenever possible.

Know your limits – pay attention to how you and your family’s bodies react to the cooler weather. If anyone mentions being too cold, be sure to take a break for a while, or if necessary, leave for the day.

This winter book your stay at the Clarion Inn Lake Buena Vista. Our convenient, comfortable Orlando resort puts you close to all the famous waterparks. You can also make a splash at the hotel at the splash-zone playground for kids or at the two seasonally-heated pools. For more information or to reserve your room, please call 407-996-7236.
